Who is Nathan Nandala Mafabi?

As Uganda’s political terrain shifts ahead of the 2026 general elections, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) is entering a defining chapter—one that calls for clarity, unity, and bold leadership. At the helm of this new push stands a seasoned political operator, economist, and battle-hardened legislator: Nathan Nandala Mafabi.
Known for his no-nonsense stance on corruption, sharp intellect, and unmatched resilience within opposition politics, Mafaabi is no stranger to Uganda’s political trenches. His emergence as the man to command the FDC frontline signals more than a change of guard; it is a statement of intent. The party is preparing for a fierce political confrontation—one that demands strategic endurance and disciplined leadership.
A Proven Political Warrior
Nathan Nandala Mafaabi’s name resonates with credibility and consistency. As the Member of Parliament for Budadiri West, his long tenure has been marked by fearless debate, rigorous scrutiny of public expenditure, and a commitment to transparency. He once served as Leader of Opposition in Parliament, and his performance remains a benchmark for future holders of that office.
Mafabi is not a flamboyant populist; he is a structured operator who believes in institutional strength over social media hype. His involvement in the Najjanankumbi-Katonga FDC power clash was seen by some as part of the factionalism threatening to cripple the party.
But even his critics admit: he gets things done. Mafabi is a political realist who values results over applause—and that may be exactly what FDC needs to revive its grassroots support and parliamentary strength.
Looking Ahead: 2026 and Beyond
The coming elections will test not just the strength of FDC, but its ability to remain relevant in a polarized political environment. With President Museveni’s grip still strong and the NUP riding high on populist energy, FDC needs a recalibration—not just in messaging but in structure, ideology, and leadership tone.
