H.E Victor Lukandwa,
President Twegaite International
Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

All the People of Busoga in the US Diaspora

On behalf of the Busoga Consortium for Development (BCD) commonly referred to as “Busoga Consortium”, I congratulate you on marking 25 years of significant growth, progress, resilience and unity as Twegiate International fraternity in the United States of America (USA).

I thank the current leadership for the astute leadership and coordination of this year’s special edition of the Twegaite International. I equally thank all the previous Presidents of Twegaite International especially the founders for having conceived and pioneered this great framework that enables the People of Busoga in the USA to annually gather to not only reflect on the journey, achievements and challenges faced as a community; but also seek to draw strategies to contribute to the transformation of your motherland of Busoga and Uganda at large.

As you gather and reflect on the previous 25 years of existence, I wish to challenge you to always preserve your identity as People of Busoga and Ugandans by demonstrating great love for your culture and nation.

The 10 year Busoga Development Agenda (BDA) (www.busoga.go.ug) identifies four (4) historical values noted to define our identity as People of Busoga including UBUNTU (I am because we are – selflessness), Nationalism and Patriotism (lasting love and belonging for Busoga), Integrity (upholding honest, moral and ethical principles) and Consensus. These values are very important in building a formidable united and prosperous Busoga; superintended over by His Majesty the Kyabazinga as our cultural leader and pillar of unity. I therefore would like to encourage you to continue upholding and cherishing these values as the basis for our identity, strength, unity and growth.

As you may be aware, the Diaspora is recognized as a key driver of National development. As Basoga fraternity from the world’s greatest economy, I wish to remind you that a lot is expected of you to champion the revival of the economic glory of Busoga. A conducive and friendly investment climate in Busoga is guaranteed by the Government of Uganda and is actioned by the BCD in collaboration with Busoga Kingdom and the Uganda Investment Authority. I therefore wish to invite you as stakeholders to come and invest in Busoga in the various sectors of the region’s economy.

As a way of facilitating FDIs and Basoga Diaspora led investments to Busoga, the BCD has set up a Directorate for Trade and Investment Promotion. This Directorate was designed to work with all relevant authorities and stakeholders to;

  1. Profile all Investment and Trade opportunities in Busoga.
  2. Establish a BCD Trade and Investment Facilitation Centre with the responsibility of promoting and strengthening trade and Investment between Busoga and the rest of the world.
  3. Negotiate friendly incentives for Industrial Parks Development and investment within Busoga.
  4. Provide necessary investment guidance and support to all potential investors in Busoga.

In conclusion, as we mark the Twegaite International Silver Jubilee celebrations, I invite you to reflect on the future of the Busoga we want and resolve to fully participate in its rebuilding. On behalf of the BCD, I assure you of our unwavering commitment to provide a bridge for the actualization of the shared dream for a socially and economically empowered Busoga.

Once again, I congratulate and wish you continued growth and achievement in the years to come.

“Busoga okwisania..na’ amaani”

For God and My Country.

Mula Anthony
DIRECTOR GENERAL BCD
