The Busoga Masaza Cup enters its decisive second round this weekend, with teams battling for just two knockout slots from each group. Matches will be played on Saturday and Sunday, setting the stage for high-stakes clashes across the sub-regions.
Bukowe Group
Group leaders Bugabula (6 pts) are in cruise control and need just a point from their remaining two games to book a place in the last eight. Luuka (3 pts) require one victory to advance, though even a draw could see them through if Bukooli falters. For Bukooli Bugiri (0 pts), the path is steep — they must beat Luuka and at least draw with Bugabula, while also hoping Bugabula defeats Luuka.
Kagulu Group
Perhaps the most unpredictable group, with Bulamogi, Bunha and Buzaya all level on two points after a series of draws in the opening round. Any team that manages a win this time will be virtually assured of qualification. If all games are drawn again, the current top two will sneak through.
Mawembe Group
Co-leaders Bukono (7 pts) and Bugweri (7 pts) are in commanding positions and need just a handful of points to wrap up their qualification. Budiope (3 pts) must win at least once and add a draw to keep alive their chances. Basement side Bunhole Bunanhumba (0 pts), meanwhile, have no room for error — they must win all three games to qualify.
Nendha Group
It is all to play for in the group of death. Busiki (5 pts) and Kigulu (5 pts) are joint leaders and one more win each could seal progression. Bukooli Namayingo (3 pts) need two wins to stay in the mix, while defending champions Butembe (2 pts) face the pressure of survival — they must avoid further slip-ups and target at least two victories.
Opening Fixtures (6th–7th September)
- Bukono vs Budiope
- Buzaya vs Bunha
- Kigulu vs Butembe
- Bugabula vs Bukooli Bugiri

With only two slots per group, every tackle, goal, and point will count. The weekend promises drama, upsets, and possibly the end of the road for some traditional giants.
