By Musa Kikuuno

The second weekend of the 2025 MTN Busoga Masaza Cup served up a mix of dazzling finishes and hard-fought draws, as chiefdoms intensified their campaigns for early supremacy in Uganda’s most prestigious cultural football tournament.

Bugabula stunned Bukooli Bugiri 2-0 away at Hindocha Primary School, with Edgar Magombe on target and a Bukooli own goal helping the visitors take control of the Bukowe group. The result left both Bukooli Bugiri and Luuka rooted at the bottom of the group without a point.

Busiki turned heads at Kisiki College with the weekend’s biggest scoreline, thrashing Bukooli Namayingo 3-0. Goals from Kawanguzi Abdallah, Lunkabire Katibu, and Euko Simon powered them to the top of the Nendha group, ahead of Butembe and Kigulu, who played out a goalless stalemate.

In the Mawembe group, Bugweri overcame Bunhole Bunanhumba 2-1 away from home. Despite Kigomba Rashid’s opener for Bunhole, strikes from Kakaire Shaban and Kasadha Mathias secured all three points for Bugweri.

Elsewhere, the Kagulu group saw Bunha and Buzaya play to a drab 0-0 draw at Buluba Hospital Grounds, earning a point apiece.

Group Standings (After Matchday One)
Kagulu Group: Bunha and Buzaya share the top spot with one point each.
Bukowe Group: Bugabula leads with 3 points.
Mawembe Group: Bugweri and Bukono sit atop with 3 points each.
Nendha Group: Busiki takes charge with 3 points, Butembe and Kigulu trail with 1.

Top Scorers
Nine players are currently tied on one goal each, including Busiki’s attacking trio and Bukono’s dynamic duo—Abel Muwola and Emmanuel Nabola. One own goal has been recorded, credited to Bukooli Bugiri’s Sosi in their loss to Bugabula.
