The Jinja City Marathon 2025 brought together hundreds of enthusiastic runners, all united by a shared purpose: to raise funds for Mama Kits and incubators for Health Centre IVs in Jinja City. Organized by Fundamental Initiative for Sustainable Transformation (FIST-Uganda), the event featured races in four categories: 2km, 5km, 10km, and 21km.
A Noble Cause
Busoga Kingdom’s Second Deputy, Katuukiro Osman Ahmed Noor, flagged off the marathon at Jinja Rugby grounds, emphasizing the event’s significance beyond just a race. “This marathon is more than a race; it is a movement,” he said. “We are promoting fitness, community spirit, and championing a noble cause – supporting health initiatives and investing in the well-being of vulnerable communities.”
Community Support
Kampala Capital City Authority’s Deputy Executive Director, Benon Kigenyi, graced the event, bringing over 35 participants from KCCA. He promised to support initiatives aimed at improving health service delivery and highlighted KCCA’s new hygiene initiative in Kampala City.

Promoting Tourism
Nelson Balyejjusa, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, emphasized the marathon’s role in promoting tourism in Jinja and Busoga. He thanked sponsors, including One-World Health, Grace Laboratories, and Excell Construction Company, among others, for their support.
Winners and Appreciation
Winners in each category received medals and prizes, while sponsors were awarded certificates of appreciation. The event was attended by notable figures, including Jinja South Division Mayor Nasser Ashraf and Secretary Jinja City Land Board Abubaker Kirunda.
