Kampala, Uganda | July 30, 2025 — The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has officially endorsed the Rt. Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi as its presidential flag bearer for the 2026 general elections.
The announcement was made yesterday during a high-level party event following wide-ranging consultations with grassroots members, elders, and the National Executive Committee (NEC).
In a powerful gesture of unity and leadership, FDC Party President Hon. Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat voluntarily stepped aside, throwing his full support behind Nandala Mafabi. The party’s Electoral Commission Chairman, Hon. Boniface Toterebuka Bamwenda, immediately declared Mafabi the official candidate.
“We now move forward united, focused, and ready to deliver economic transformation to Ugandans,” Mafabi stated during his acceptance speech. The party’s 2026 campaign will run under the theme: “Fixing the economy; money in our pockets.”
Internal Challenges and Crossovers
This announcement comes at a time when the FDC is facing internal turbulence. Several top party leaders have recently crossed over to the newly formed People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), citing frustrations and ideological differences.
Political analysts argue that Nandala Mafabi’s long-standing dominance within FDC structures made his endorsement inevitable. With his influence and visibility, many believed it was only a matter of time before he was handed the presidential card.
Despite internal shifts, the FDC leadership expressed confidence in regaining lost ground and rallying the nation behind its new flag bearer.
