CHAN: Sudan sends Nigeria back to West Africa

Table of Content

Sudan 4-0 Nigeria

Sudan delivered a brutal reality check to Nigeria with a 4–0 rout, confirming the Super Eagles’ early exit from the African Nations Championship (CHAN). The result makes Nigeria the first team to find an early flight home.

Meanwhile, Tanzania became the first side to seal a quarter-final place, while several others remain in tight races for the remaining seven spots.

Group A: Kenya Close to Sealing Progress

With 7 points from three matches, Kenya only need a draw against bottom-placed Zambia to qualify. Angola (4 pts) face a must-win clash with DR Congo (3 pts), who have a game in hand and a clear path to leapfrog their rivals. Morocco (3 pts) are also alive in the hunt, with their final showdown against DR Congo likely to be decisive.

Out: None

Still in contention: All

Group B: Tanzania Through, Second Spot Still Unclaimed

Tanzania are through after three straight wins, conceding just one goal. The pressure is now on Mauritania (4 pts) and Burkina Faso (3 pts), who clash in a pivotal match. Madagascar (1 pt) still have a slim hope, but Central African Republic have minimal chances after three defeats.

Qualified: Tanzania

Out: None

Contenders: All

Group C: Uganda on Top, But Group Still Wide Open

Uganda lead with 6 points, but their final match against South Africa (4 pts) will be critical. Algeria (4 pts) face Guinea (3 pts) next. Every match left in this group matters, and a final-day twist remains very likely.

Out: None

Still alive: All

Group D: Sudan Fly, Nigeria Fall Hard

Sudan’s 4–0 win over Nigeria is one of the most dominant performances of the tournament so far. It put them at the top of the group and left Nigeria eliminated with zero points, zero goals, and five conceded — a campaign to forget. Senegal (4 pts) are in a strong position to qualify alongside Sudan, while Congo (2 pts) must win and hope for other results to go their way.

Out: Nigeria

Likely to qualify: Sudan, Senegal

Still in contention: Congo
