Business and traffic came to a dramatic standstill across parts of Busoga as Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, led a massive political procession to launch her campaign for re-election as the Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) on the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC).

The spectacle, centered in Iganga Town, drew thousands of supporters from across Busoga sub-region—Kamuli, Mayuge, Namutumba, Bugiri, and beyond—painting the Jinja–Iganga highway in vibrant yellow, with chants, dance, and a thunderous show of support.

Kadaga, who is also the Woman MP for Kamuli District, was joined by Hon. Persis Namuganza, State Minister for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development. The duo marched from Bishop Willis Core Primary Teachers’ College to the Iganga District headquarters, escorted by a jubilant crowd waving posters and clad in yellow shirts bearing Kadaga’s image.

“This is not just about me,” Kadaga declared while addressing the crowd. “It’s about the dignity of Busoga, the recognition of women’s strength, and the commitment to serve our people with consistency and courage.”

Prior to the street procession, Kadaga convened a high-level delegate meeting at Bishop Willis Core PTC. The gathering brought together district NRM chairpersons, Women’s League leaders, Youth leaders, Women Council members, and representatives of the elderly from all corners of Busoga.

“We are here not just to support a candidate, but to protect a legacy of leadership that has always placed Busoga on the national map,” said Sarah Nabirye, Chairperson of the Women’s Council in Mayuge District.

At the district grounds in Iganga Municipality, Kadaga officially launched her re-election bid, rallying her base and assuring the crowd that she remains committed to amplifying grassroots voices, especially those of women and youth, at the highest levels of party leadership.

“Kadaga is a pillar of strength, not just in Busoga but in the country,” added Daniel Mukasa, NRM youth mobilizer from Namutumba. “Her presence on the CEC is a win for every young person with a dream.”

The day’s events sent a clear message: Kadaga’s political grip on Busoga remains solid, and her influence within the NRM and national politics continues to command overwhelming loyalty from the region.

As the sun set over Iganga, drums, ululations, and chants of “Kadaga Oyeee!” echoed through the town—marking not just the start of a campaign, but a renewed movement of regional pride and national ambition.
