BACK HOME: Burkina Faso and CAR join Nigeria to book home tickets early

Table of Content

Group B results:

Madagascar 2-0 Central African Republic

Mauritania 1-0 Burkina Faso

The CHAN 2024 drama intensified yesterday as Burkina Faso and the Central African Republic (CAR) joined Nigeria on the exit list after crucial defeats in Group B. Madagascar saw off CAR 2-0, while Mauritania edged Burkina Faso 1-0 in a tight contest.

The results reshaped the table:

  1. Tanzania – 9 pts
  2. Mauritania – 7 pts
  3. Madagascar – 4 pts
  4. Burkina Faso – 3 pts
  5. Central African Republic – 0 pts

Tanzania, perfect after three wins, has already sealed a quarterfinal berth and faces bottom-placed CAR on Saturday in a fixture that will be purely for honor. CAR’s fate is sealed, while Burkina Faso’s hopes evaporated despite having one game left.

Mauritania, second with 7 points, has completed its group matches but must now nervously await the outcome of Saturday’s Madagascar vs. Burkina Faso showdown. A win for Madagascar would put them level with Mauritania on 7 points but ahead on goal difference, booking them a spot alongside Tanzania in the last eight. A draw, however, sends Mauritania through.

Meanwhile, Group A heats up today with Zambia battling Morocco, and Angola taking on DR Congo. Zambia faces elimination if they fall to Morocco, who would climb to 6 points—just one shy of leaders Kenya (7 points with a game in hand). Angola (4 points) could match Kenya with a win over DR Congo, while Congo (3 points) must win to keep knockout dreams alive.
