The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Ben Kumumanya, has called on town clerks to enhance infrastructure and provide essential amenities like water and electricity in markets.

Speaking at a meeting with town clerks overseeing market management under the Markets and Agricultural Trade Improvement Program (MATIP), Kumumanya emphasized that improved amenities will attract more vendors and increase revenue collection. He urged town clerks to enforce the Markets Act, particularly the clause abolishing landlords in government-owned markets.

Kumumanya commended Gulu and Arua Cities for their notable achievements in restoring trade order and boosting market revenue.Arua City’s impressive revenue collection performance was attributed to improved amenities in the central market, including water, electricity, and daily garbage removal through newly acquired trucks. The city’s town clerk, David Kyasanku, highlighted these upgrades as key to their success.
